Horse Jumping boots - Leather and Velcro Straps Plastic vs vs?

I'm thinking about ordering the Pessoa leather lined open front and ankle boots: Http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-04461&ids=108394816 what are the advantages and disadvantages of leather boots to plastic boots with neoprene line? and What are the advantages and disadvantages of straps with velcro? I would go and y'all on boots or you want to choose Eskarons boots like? Thanks!

First, you are wise to go over leather lining fleece. Fleece looks fancy, but it's a pain in the neck to keep clean. Leather jump boots look really really nice, I'll always agree with that. However, it is much harder to maintain than plastic boots (ie Eskadrons). They requires constant cleaning and oiling to keep them in good condition. In the summer you'll have to carefully dry them (not in a day!) And then make sure they get oiled so they do not dry out and crack. Straps and buckles again looked nice, but they are more annoying to put on. On the plus side any tack repair person can replace them if they break. You'll have to be very careful to clean all the sand out of the insides of your boots regularly so that they rub Your horse's feet - it's actually any boot, but a little more difficult to leather. The perks of Eskadron-type plastic boots is that you can hose off the excess sand and throw it in the washing machine, and then the rice, and they came out all nice and clean. I do not recommend doing this all the time, but when they get plenty nasty it is a handy feature. I usually brush mine out after each use and then toss it in my body - wash them out with a hose and brush every couple of days to keep the grit. The velcro straps are quick and easy to apply, and nice and stretchy - you have be careful not to get them too tight, but they also stretch and give as the horse moves. Most leather boots with buckle straps also have an elastic bit at the end of the straps to give them as well. A complaint most people have in plastic boots is that they do not breathe well - leather breathe in theory, but My experience with horses sweat under pretty much all boots. I have two - to be honest I have not used my leather boots because I save them to show and it poured buckets on some horses I show this summer - I was not using my expensive leathers in the mud! I had my Eskadrons for 6 or 7 years and they still look great and work very well - a bit scuffed up but they still kept up well enough to show in. I find I get a lot of use out of them, but when I found my leathers on clearance for a good price that I could not pass them up - I know I'll use it eventually, I just picky about my equipment!
